Leigh Tec Complete Prestigious Boxpark Wembley Ventilation Project
The world’s first pop-up mall, Boxpark is the brainchild of Roger Wade who is the Founder and CEO of the aptly named “most beautiful shed on earth”.
The concept is a way of bringing together an array of different independent street food vendors under one roof whilst diners share a main seating area. Add to this local and global retail brands and a unique shopping and dining experience was born, initially in Shoreditch in 2001. As this was a hugely successful venture, Roger decided to open another site in Croydon in 2016 and then towards the end of 2018 Boxpark Wembley, their biggest location to date opened its doors.
Leigh Tec Systems were proud to be part of this exciting and prestigious project when we were commissioned to provide ventilation and odour control systems to all the 20 independent street food kitchens at Boxpark Wembley.
It was a challenging project as we had to design and manufacture ventilation systems to cope with the varied cooking methods that the street food vendors use, from small steaming processes to very smoky griddle cooking. And of course, all our systems had to perform to and meet stringent environmental restrictions on noise and odour.
The project had strict timelines and budgets so it was agreed that our ChefTec range of canopies would be a perfect fit as the client didn’t want to compromise on quality or performance but wanted to stay within budget. Even though our ChefTec canopies are a lower priced product they still meet the industry guidelines and have the same build qualities of our bespoke range of canopies, so the client was very happy.
Due to the way that our ChefTec range is manufactured we were able to turnaround the ventilation systems quickly and because the range has set sizes for production which suited this project, it was quick and easy to start the production at our Goole manufacturing plant.
Our deadline was to complete the project during the month of November ready for their million-pound opening event on the 6th December, which saw Rinse FM takeover their massive 20,000 square foot events space with live sets from world-renowned artists and DJ’s. We were invited to the launch and to say the food and hospitality shown was superb would be an understatement.
As per most projects we suffered at the hands of others, delays in orders, waiting for builders, delivery issues and customers changing the design last minute. However, we were pleased that the project was completed on time even with additional works over and above the initial specifications and done within the project deadline.
